Worldwide Orphans Foundation's (WWO) A Midsummer Eve

An Evening of Cutting-Edge Performance Art Benefits Worldwide Orphans Foundation

A Midsummer Eve musical performance and readings by artists with The Myth of Red/Creative Salon Series benefited Worldwide Orphans Foundation (WWO) on June 23 in New York City. WWO is dedicated to transforming the lives of orphaned children around the world.

The invitation-only event -- the brainchild of real estate developer Matthew Blesso, vocalist Sasha Lazard and Brittany Levinson -- was held at Blesso’s NoHo penthouse loft. The Loft, which has garnered three design awards and has been published in top design magazines, allowed for an amazing event with entertainment both inside and outside on its garden terrace.

“Of all of the organizations I’ve studied doing work in the developing world, I believe WWO is perhaps the most impressive and worthy. They have successful models, efficient operations and have saved and transformed thousands of lives of orphaned children around the world,” said Blesso. “It’s a great pleasure to host this event for them”.

The special event featured musical performances, readings and monologues of inspiration and hope from artists participating in The Myth of Red/Creative Salon Series, a series of creative gatherings for artists to collaborate and discuss timely issues. The “Salon” showcased pre-arranged and impromptu performances by some of the nation’s most acclaimed musicians, performers, painters and artists.

Special performance artists included Sasha Lazard, vocalist and founder; Dave Eggar, cellist and producer; Dina Fanai, vocalist and producer; Heather Holley, songwriter, producer, and vocalist; Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, actress and vocalist; Holly Brook, vocalist and songwriter; Caitlin Moe, violinist and singer-songwriter; and Dave Schommer, percussionist, musician and producer.

WWO Founder and CEO Dr. Jane Aronson passionately spoke about WWO’s impactful work in providing orphaned children worldwide with individual care and educational opportunities to help them grow, learn, play and become productive adults. WWO also offers life-saving medical assistance to children in orphanages, including treatment and antiretroviral medications for orphans impacted by HIV/AIDS.

"WWO is grateful for the support and extraordinary talent of the artists performing at the ‘salon,’ and to Matt Blesso’s generosity in opening his home to us,” said Dr. Aronson, a pediatrician specializing in international adoptions and orphaned children worldwide. “This event and the support it has encouraged will go a long way in expanding our work to make a lasting impact on the lives of orphaned children around the world, and ensuring that no child is forgotten.”

The evening featured a short film, narrated by actor Liev Schreiber, on WWO’s innovative approaches to early childhood development and programming that serve the needs of children living in orphanages worldwide.
