Rehabilitation Through The Arts Benefit "The Inside Story"

Rehabilitation Through The Arts (RTA) hosted a benefit in New York City to support the use of the arts as a tool for social and cognitive development in NYS prisons.

Alumni of the program - prisoners who participated and have since been released - performed scenes and readings, and men from RTA's modern dance program re-created a dance performed in prison. Several RTA volunteers, veteran actors of the Broadway stage, also performed. An exhibit and silent auction of prison art showed another example of the talent and humanity that exists inside prison walls.

The event also honored Commissioner Brian Fischer of the NYS Department of Correctional Services, for his enlightened support of the arts in NYS prisons and his compassionate approach to corrections.
