Friends of the South Florida Science Museum Toast

Committee members and friends of the South Florida Science Museum gathered recently for a champagne reception at the Palm Beach home of Carter and Afsy Pottash to toast the Museum’s “Bubbles on the Beach” event scheduled for April 10, 2010.

The upcoming “Bubbles” party will serve as a thank-you event for supporters of the Museum’s first virtual Gala – the 23rd Annual Diamond Constellation Ball.

“We wanted this year’s Gala event to enable the majority of funds raised to support science education,” said honorary chairman, Julie Rudolph. “By going virtual, our guests can stay home on the night of the gala, knowing they have helped children in our community discover the magic of science.”
Chaired by Carter and Afsy Pottash, with Peggy Brown, Sydelle Meyer, Julie Rudolph, and Kathryn C. Vecellio serving as Honorary Chairmen, the Bubbles on the Beach thank you party will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, dancing, and silent and live auctions to those who have made a contribution to the virtual gala.

“It’s the best of both worlds,” said Vecellio. “Our annual benefit event will still earmark programming dollars for the museum. In addition, guests can look forward to a more casual and fully underwritten ‘Bubbles on the Beach’ as a fun wrap-up to a busy season – at the beautiful oceanfront home of our chairs.”

Virtual tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the event are still available. Current Gala benefactors include: Peggy Brown; Sydelle Meyer; Afsy and Dr. Carter Pottash; Julie and Howard Rudolph; and Kathryn and Leo Vecellio, Jr. Sponsors of this evening include: AT&T; Frances and Jeffrey Fisher; Seymour “Zoom” Fleisher; Gunster Attorneys at Law; Dale Hedrick; Mary Hulitar; Julie and John Kime; Helene and Matthew Lorentzen; Heidi and John Niblack; Harvey Oyer; and Scripps Florida. Ticket price is $600.

The South Florida Science Museum provides curious minds of all ages with an entertaining and educational journey through science and technology. Located in West Palm Beach, the museum features more than 50 hands-on exhibits, a digital planetarium, freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as natural history exhibitions.

Each year the museum welcomes more than 120,000 visitors and reaches more than 55,000 students through workshops at the museum and outreach programs to local schools. Established in 1961, the museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to exciting curiosity and furthering the understanding and appreciation of science and technology.
