Chicago Opera Theater Boat Cruise
08/12/2010 - By Chicago, IL

Chicago Opera Theater Boat Cruise

On Thursday, August 12, 2010 Chicago Opera Theater (COT) presented their second annual Opera Boat Cruise: “High Cs on the High Seas.” Just over 100 guests set sail on Kanan Cruises and enjoyed an evening of song, “Operatinis”, and dancing.

Boarding began on Navy Pier at 5:30pm and the boat set out on Lake Michigan at 6pm. Guests enjoyed wine, courtesy of Alamos: The Wines of Catena and William Hill Estate Winery; beer, courtesy of Goose Island; and COT’s signature cocktail the “Operatini,” courtesy of New Amsterdam Straight Gin.

The opera program began around 6:30pm and featured legendary soprano Nancy Gustafson, and up-and-coming star baritone Paul LaRosa. The two sang a lovely twenty minute program that concluded with the beautiful “Lippen Schweigen” from The Merry Widow. The performance was followed by dancing on the top floor of the boat overlooking the stunning Chicago skyline.

The event was a fundraiser celebrating the end of the 2010 Season and marking the final two weeks to raise money before the end of COT’s fiscal year on August 31st. Almost $9,000 was raised in ticket sales and the on-boat raffle.
