Howard Brown Health Center raises nearly $500,000 at its Annual Gala

On October 10th, nearly 500 guests gathered at the Palmer House Hilton to celebrate Howard Brown Health Center's Annual Gala, Bertha's Ball, named in honor of Chicago's grande dame of philanthropy, Bertha Honoré Palmer. Presented by the Palmer House Hilton, Harris Bank, and Walgreens, the evening kicked off with a sponsor reception, which offered guests a sneak peak at the many luxuries available at the silent auction. Cocktails and dinner followed along with a moving video presentation about the organization and three tribute videos honoring Howard Brown's Friends for Life. Each year Howard Brown honors organizations or individuals to honor for their outstanding contributions to Howard Brown and the community.

Honorees, Designs for Dignity, David Arzola and Kat Fitzgerald accepted their awards and then joined guests in dancing the night away to the sounds of the Stanley Paul Orchestra.

The evening was co-chaired by Jamal Edwards of Kirkland & Ellis, Noreen Keeney of Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and Kelly Saulsberry of Affinity Community Services with David Brandt of the Palmer House serving as the Honorary Chair. Bertha's Ball was entirely underwritten by the Palmer House Hilton. This unprecedented opportunity allows Howard Brown Health Center to commit 100% of the funds raised at the event to the delivery of life-saving and preventative care for more than 36,000 individuals a year.

"We are grateful for the Palmer House's generosity and dedication to Howard Brown," says Michael Cook, President and CEO of Howard Brown Health Center. "The proceeds from this event allow us to provide service to thousands of people that would otherwise go without the attention and care they need."

Howard Brown Health Center is one of the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) healthcare organizations. Through a wide array of health, wellness, social service and research programs, Howard Brown cares for more than 36,000 adult and youth clients annually.
