Afripreneurs of Tomorrow Scholarship Ball: The Signature Charity Affair of Statuesque Events

The Afripreneurs of Tomorrow Scholarship Ball is the signature charity initiative of Statuesque Events, an event planning and decorating company in the metro NYC area.

The purpose of the event was to use highlight the importance of Afripreneurship; entrepreneurship that brings positive change to Africa or Africans, by highlighting and encouraging the youth in the community.

Applicants were encouraged to complete the application, which called for an essay response to the question "How are you an Afripreneur of Tomorrow?" as well as information on their leadership activities. Ohemaa Poku, a junior at Mount Holyoke College, majoring in African History and Developmental studies while serving as the co-president of two student organizations was selected as the winner of the collegiate scholarship. Toluwase Oladapo, a junior at Brooklyn Technical High School and leader of 5 community groups was selected as the high school recipient. Both students were awarded $1,000 and $500 respectively at the ball in front of a host of community leaders and entrepreneurs. One of the scholarship winners' mothers reached out to us to let us know that this award helped to increase her daughter's confidence in her dreams and her drive to continue pursuing it.

The event featured performances by Brave Boi Music Group and Emma Nyra, a keynote by MacDella Cooper, music by DJ Yoossouph in 320 Studios, a midtown loft, which was decorated by the Statuesque Events team. Other VIP attendees included actor Gbenga Akinnagbe-of the Wire, the Taking of Pelham etc, Jamie Ansorge- co-founder of the International Youth Council, Queen Mother Dr. Delois Blakely, Abdi Farah-winner of Bravo's "A Work of Art" Season 1, Nkem Ejo-Miss Nigerian Independence 2010-2011and more. Guests enjoyed dinner courtesy of Mataheko Restaurant, raffle prizes courtesy of Design By U Jewelry, Abebi beauty, Nana Brew-Hammond, MACS Women and Bath & Body Works. Guests also enjoyed gift bags sponsored by Black Enterprise, NYC Go, Munaluchi Bride, Bath & Body Works, Atlantic Concierge and Statuesque Events. ITakePhotos and Triibe Natiion provided photography for the evening. Go Forward Realty and The Network Journal were also gracious sponsors of this affair, and Face2Face Africa and Munaluchi Bride Magazines provided press coverage. The event was a great success, and would not have been without the support of each of our sponsors and supporters. Statuesque Events plans to continue this event in future years, and continue encouraging tomorrow's Afripreneurs.
